White Dove Release
White Dove releases have held symbolic meanings for ceremonies for centuries in various cultures. White doves are used to symbolize new beginnings, spirituality, fidelity, ascension, freedom and peace. Doves are known to choose their mate for life, both the male and female rear their young together.
Our doves are trained to return to their home loft. Releasing untrained doves would mean certain death, as they are not able to fend for themselves. Our doves are a type of homing pigeon that will remain in flight with it's mate or covey (flock) and return home.
There are many different ways to do a dove release. A single dove is often used for a memorial service, a mated pair or several for a wedding, and dozens for a big public event or gala. A dove release will make your ceremony one that will be remembered. You can choose to hand release the doves or release them from specially designed and decorated baskets. Your guests will be amazed as the brilliant white doves circle in the skies and flutter homeward. Dove displays alone can be captivating and beautiful and provide the same symbolic meanings as a release.
We take our responsiblity to the doves seriously and for this reason, we do not release within one hour of darkness or in inclement weather. Our doves are pampered, conditioned, and vaccinated to ensure their health and vitality. It is also a requirement that a handler will remain present, unobtrusively and in appropriate attire, for the well-being of the doves and the success of your event.
Policy of Ethical Standards
Quaker Trace Carriage Co. & White Dove Release follows these basic guidelines below as a
minimum ethical standard for releasing of white doves at weddings, funerals and
other special events where dove release ceremony is desired.
As members of the Professional White Dove Release Association and the White Dove Directory we adhere to the following policies.
1.) The safety of our birds is our top priority.
2.) To release only healthy, homing pigeons (aka: Rock Dove or Columba Livia).
These birds are the only type that should be released and expected to return
home. Pet store doves will perish as they have no where to go.
3.) Our birds will be trained and physically fit to perform any task, or return
from the distances they are released. (We will not release them beyond their physical
capabilities)
4.) The birds must be allowed sufficient time to get home from the release point
before dark.
5.) We shall not release our birds in inclement weather such as heavy rain, fog,
high winds or any condition in which our birds safety is jeopardized.
6) Members agree not to do night releases.
7) Members agree not to allow their birds welfare to be overseen by inexperienced
personnel. (Shipping or pickup for self-release)
NOTE:
Pet store doves should never be used, as they will perish. They have no homing
ability and are not suitable to surviving in the wild.
